Visible Applause is a company born out of a heartfelt desire to honor and affirm great work and effort. Tom Ferguson, Founder and CEO, has long believed that appropriate and thoughtful recognition changes the workplace and the worker. For more than a decade, he has studied the art of recognition and he has arrived at this: Work is more than a physical or emotional exercise. It is both. Paying proper tribute to great performances improves the workplace, decreases turnover, and increases productivity and profitability. And, every truly great act of recognition has to be special. "It can't just be an off-the-shelf every day type of affirmation," says Ferguson. "It needs to be significant and it needs to cause the recipient to say 'wow'". That 'wow' moment taps into the emotional aspect of work and fulfills an important and deeply longed-for need. Though there is growing evidence that this so called "soft" science has measurable benefits to the bottom line, many organizations still have not discovered this power of affirmation.
Visible Applause began as a sideline for Tom Ferguson many years ago when he was an executive in an engineering firm. In his role, Tom had responsibility for town hall meetings with employees, communication, and recognition. His work in this role led him to an important and life-changing discovery: people respond positively to being included in the process. Tangible and individualized awards, trophies, and mementos are a vital part of that.
Today, Visible Applause is a growing company involved in consulting and designing of awards programs, and the design of the awards themselves. It finds itself in the enviable position of being right in the middle of a movement that is gaining momentum every day as the evidence mounts about the value of affirmation.
